First ARM Cortex M1 in-house training seminar for FAEs at Sasco Holz

18 participants from SascoHolz’s System Level and Programmable Logic departments took part in the first ARM Cortex M1 seminar held on 18 June in Putzbrunn. The training provision was triggered by the agreement between ARM, Altera and ARROW to enter into a collaborative venture. For SascoHolz, this means having the new ARM Cortex M1 soft core family for Altera CycloneIII FPGAs exclusively in the line card.

The event: The training seminar was developed in the run-up to the impending collaboration between the ARM partner companies, the training partner Doulos and SascoHolz. Also in attendance representing Altera was PRISMA, a company which is providing essential assistance to SascoHolz with regard to its support provision for customers from industrial sectors.

The training took in a detailed introduction to the fundamental principles of the ARM Cortex M1 technology, as well as looking at the essential differences between it and standard processor products based on ARM. The content, which was presented by the Doulos organisation, also included an introduction to the integration of the ARM Cortex M1 core into Altera’s Quartus II software. In its capacity as a partner to SascoHolz, Doulos offers a variety of training options addressing all aspects of ARM, VHDL and Quartus II.

All participants were given a valid ARM Cortex M1 licence, so that they can show just how easy the integration process is with the SOPC Builder. The Cortex M1 core for Altera Cyclone products is available to customers from SascoHolz. Supplied in the form of a kit, it comes with the DK-START-3C25N hardware and the FA100-KT-30001 software (which includes a licence for 1000 workstations). A time-restricted evaluation version of OpenCorePlus will be available to customers for test purposes from August. This, once more, makes Cortex M1 an attractive option.
