IDT® has announced a family of real-time clock devices designed for the computing, medical and telecom markets. The devices are well suited for applications in all the target markets, including set-top boxes, GPS devices, energy meters and MP3 players.

The IDT real-time clocks target any application where a stand-alone, real-time clock is needed. IDT has a history of providing leading edge timing solutions and is building on that strength to extend its reach into the world of real-time clocks. The IDT trend for ultra-low power products is also demonstrated, making the solutions ideal for portable or mobile applications.

IDT is able to customise its real-time clocks to fit the diverse needs of its customers, thereby providing the market with improved performance and a faster time to market. The IDT real-time clocks are low power clock/date devices with two programmable time-of-day alarms and a programmable square-wave output for applications requiring calendar and time functionality. Address and data are transferred serially through an I2C bus. The built-in power sense circuit can detect a power failure and automatically switch to a back-up supply, thereby maintaining time, date and alarm operation. Non-volatile SRAM is also integrated in to the devices to preserve data during power failure.

Providing seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month and year information, the date is automatically adjusted for months with fewer than 31days, including corrections for leap years. Both 12 and 24hour formats are supported, with an additional AM/PM indicator.
